Watercolour Painting

Watercolour is a painting method in which the paints are made of pigments that are suspended in a water-based solution and then mixed with water. Known for its inherent delicacy and subtlety because of its thin washes and transparent colour (though watercolours can be made opaque with the addition of Chinese white). Traditionally, watercolour artists work on paper and you find the white of the painting surface will gleam through and lend itself to the luminosity of the painting.

When you first learn how to paint watercolour art, the fluidity of the medium can often be a stumbling block because it makes the paint less predictable. By understanding some of the basic painting techniques such as washes, texture effects and masking out areas for highlights you can create some wonderful art by just letting go and enjoying the freedom of the medium.

Whether you are a beginner or more advanced painter watercolour is a relaxing art form or hobby that allows you the freedom to be creative and imaginative.
